Are you going to any of the October concerts?
Of course!
Maybe...
I am sitting out this round!

Ah, another week, another German Lesson.

Welcome to you newcomers, and willkommen to those who’ve been here a while.

Your regularly scheduled teacher and lifestyle guru, Darcy, had to give up this post when she received the opportunity of a lifetime. You may now find her living in the wilds of Canada, teaching German and Moxie to the natives there. We still get the occasional message from her via her weekend sky-writing gig, assuring us all is well.

Aggressively usurping this section is your new site-contributing gal. My name is Anne; I’m currently living in Ohio with my husband and daughter. I enjoy reading, sci-fi geekery, various jellies and Georg’s biceps.

How is a housewife from the Midwest supposed to teach you any kind of worthwhile German? Have faith, tiny dancer!

                7/28/07

Now, last time Darcy gave you a quiz. Let’s say we get those answers out of the way before we do anything else, ja? Everyone pass your answers to the person on your right, and get out your red pens.

                  1. List two words, in German, that could be used to describe Bill. There are a few choices here, any of which would have been acceptable. Talentvoll, zwilling, hübsch, jung, geil, Frauenzimmer, or Roboter. 5 points each

                  2. “Wie nennt man einen Jungen, der mit drei Musikerin rumhängt?” Did you put Gustav? Shame on you, you horrible person. You’re right, though. 10 Points

                  3. Fill in the blank: Tom, zieh ___ _____ aus! die Kappe. And no, before you ask, we wouldn’t also accept die Hosen. 10 Points

                  4. Give the name of Tom's one and only long term girlfriend. Jibson. No, not “Oh God please let it be me”, and very much not Bill. (At least, not that we can prove.) 10 Points

                  5. Bill's around. What is your state of being? If you said “Mein gott, ich bin gein!”, that’s more than your teacher needed to know. A slightly less disturbing, and more correct answer would have been Da geht mein Herz auf, ah! 10 Points

                  6. How does one say "The girl's bathroom is over there"? Das Mädchenklo ist dort drüben. How handy! 10 Points

                  7. “Kennst du die Band?” Did you remember to answer herein deutsch? The correct answer in this instance is ja. 10 Points

                  8. “My hat is stuck to my head and I've got male pattern balding and a fivehead” translates roughly to... Ledzgo Ledzgo Ledzgo. 10 Points

                  9. How's Tom's hat, Bill? NEIN. Yeah, it’s best to just avert your eyes and pretend we’re not all growing more concerned by the day. 10 Points

                  10. Name two zwillinge. This one is practically a freebie, so I hope you all got it right! Bill und Tom, George und Georg, the Olsens, and so forth.10 Points

                  So, how did everyone do?

Next Week: "Can you smell a badger?" and other life-saving phrases!
